Strong-field drivers based on high-energy soliton dynamics

Abstract

Optical soliton dynamics in gas-filled hollow-core fibres enable the generation of self-compressed few- to sub-cycle pulses, and phase-matched dispersive wave emission from the visible to ultraviolet spectral region. We discuss scaling this concept to the multi-mJ pulse energy range, obtaining intense driving pulses for strong-field experiments. In addition to producing high peak power UV to VIS pulses, soliton dynamics can be scaled to infrared wavelengths which are relevant to high cut-off high-harmonic generation.
